Auto detect SNMP Settings form Device

It would be nice if Pulseway can monitor SNMP agents without setting up all OID's

So that if you discover a device like a Synology NAS or HP ILO or Whatever it automatically starts pulling data form it.

Like Observium does. So you can also get graphs / system info form it etc.

This is the biggest reason keeping us from using Pulseway more w/ built in features - manually managing OIDs for a network full of gear is simply not something we are going to do when so many other products ping and poll the data and allow you to select what you want to see without added configuration. 

That said, we love pulse way and use it heavily. We just wish we could get rid of our current network monitor for this.

@PulsewayTeam any news on this? We we can get some graphs out of pulseway and detailed info like uptime or graphs for network speeds for Routers / Devices etc.

Hi there,

I'm afraid that there is no progress on this yet. We're going to be introducing Agent Policies to centralize the configuration of Pulseway agents, this will greatly ease the process of pushing new configuration to agents and we will definitely be introducing templates for various use cases and SNMP might come up with templates at start then we will extend it to guess the device and automatically pick a template.

Yeah, with that I think that you can create a "global" MIB libary with all features etc.

We have used Zabbix, Cacti and other programs to help is create management reports for ongoing issues. Having a graph and data in tables really helps Exec with decision making. It also helps show your suggestions worked for a solution.

Hey @Martin Akamphuber - Yes! You're able to add the SNMP agent without setting OID's. Can you provide me with the following information to assist you further: 

1. What device is it?
2. What in specific would you like to monitor on these devices?
3. Windows server/workstation needs to be setup as a central device(probe) to connect to these SNMP devices.

We want to Monitor

• Mikrotik Switches and Routers
  Switches- if interfaces go up down, abnormal status like bad or lost packages, Uptime or reboot count, system temp and cpu load
   
• Qnap Storages with 4 and 8 HDD's
  the status, model, serialnumber of the HDD's, Raid status, space left on the volumes, and also cpu load, temp and uptime
   
• Kyocer, sharp, brother Laserprinters
  % of toner left, error status Printer

The Agent (Probe) is installed on a central Windows server and the SNMP devices are found.

But no automatic detection of this devices...

In the meantime i made my own snmp profiles for a sharp Printer and a 4HDD Qnap

is there a howto to add snmp devices without to generate each oid manually?

for a maybe central shared SNMP profile database i add you my first own Profiles

Hey @Martin Akamphuber - Thanks for this. I just checked with our Dev team and we're definitely adding SNMP profiles in the future, but for now you'll have to add the SNMP variables manually by looking at the device manual.
