Hello,

we want to use Pulseway to monitor our complete IT infrastructure (~65 linux server, ~25 window server, 120 wlan access points, multiple snmp devices, 13 different locations around the world)
While testing the software we hit some problems/questions. I hope someone can give us feedback to the following points.
If the thread is in the wrong subcategory please move to the correct.

General questions
- Is the any possible to create/write our own plugins for linux? Or only windows?
- Is there an german distribution/support?
- For the Windows client is the documentation nearly perfect, is there any documentation for Linux client?

- Is there a way to put groups in groups?
   * Like UNIT1/linux, UNIT1/windows UNIT2/linux and UNIT2/windows

Specific linux monitoring questions:

mySQL (Linux)
- Database Status
- Test Connection
- SQL Queries and analyse results

Oracle Database 11gR2 (Linux)
- Status tablespace capacity
- Test connection with user and specific sid

KVM/Qemu (Linux)
- Status VM Guest

Linux
- Harddisk SMART Values
- Software RAID status
- Check Ports
- Temperatur, fans like the nagios check_sensor plugin

Backups (Linux)
- Check file timestamp?

Mailserver (Linux)
- Check SMTP and IMAP Connection

Update check Linux distributions
- Ubuntu (apt-get)
- Suse (Zypper)

SNMP
- Enterprise Version required?
- Every device one license?

Best regards,
Fabian

Hi Fabian,

Welcome to the Pulseway community.

General questions
- Is the any possible to create/write our own plugins for linux? Or only windows?
Plugins are only for the windows agent, however you can use the REST API to create cloud instances. We plan to support linux plugins in the future as well.
- Is there an german distribution/support?
No, not at this moment.
- For the Windows client is the documentation nearly perfect, is there any documentation for Linux client?
The linux sample configuration file is thoroughly documented as well. Can you let us know what we missed in the linux documentation?
- Is there a way to put groups in groups?
   * Like UNIT1/linux, UNIT1/windows UNIT2/linux and UNIT2/windows
We don't have support for sub-groups at this moment but with the Pulseway Enterprise Server you can create a user account per customer and then have groups which is basically the same thing.

Specific linux monitoring questions:

mySQL (Linux)
- Database Status
- Test Connection
- SQL Queries and analyse results
MySQL (and MariaDB) server module is on our Roadmap.

Oracle Database 11gR2 (Linux)
- Status tablespace capacity
- Test connection with user and specific sid
I've noted the request and we will consider it for a future release.

KVM/Qemu (Linux)
- Status VM Guest
I've noted the request and we will consider it for a future release.

Linux
- Harddisk SMART Values
This is planned for a future release.
- Software RAID status
Also planned for a future release.
- Check Ports
This is already supported by the linux agent.
- Temperatur, fans like the nagios check_sensor plugin
Planned for a future release.

Backups (Linux)
- Check file timestamp?
For this we plan on introducing a way to send notifications from a script so that you can write a cron job that does custom checks and then if needed, send the notification.

Mailserver (Linux)
- Check SMTP and IMAP Connection
Can be achieved with the port monitoring feature.

Update check Linux distributions
- Ubuntu (apt-get)
- Suse (Zypper)
Both and yum is already on our todo list.

SNMP
- Enterprise Version required?
No, SNMP server module will work just fine with the Professional plan.
- Every device one license?
No, you consume a license unit for each agent / cloud instance. If an agent monitors 100 SNMP enabled devices it will still consume only one license unit.

Regards,
Chris
