I'd like to be able to set Event Log notifications for logs in the "Microsoft" folder & subfolders on Win 6.x. (And other vendors' folders, if found on the system.)

JeffVandervoort got a reaction from wpatterson in AD integration
I'm a big believer in principle of least permissions. AD includes several built-in levels of administrative permissions, and allows creation of many more through Delegation and Group Policy.

PC Monitor makes every user an uber-admin, because it runs as LocalSystem, one of the most powerful accounts in a system.

I'm a one-man shop at this point, but hope for big growth when I'm in production. There will come a time, possibly fairly soon, where I will no longer be able to use PC Monitor because it does not allow me to properly secure the system.

I'd like for PCM to impersonate users, and use AD to determine what they are permitted to do, which servers they're permitted to control, etc.

This is a non-trivial request, and I'm sure it will take a while to get done. Hope PCM gets there by the time I need it!

(Now, watch Marius respond, "That will be in version 3.0, next week.")

I have set up PCMonitor on 120 pcs, I used my IPAD as the the allowable device. I have need however to authorise another 2 ipads. Is there a quick way of doing of this? I have tried going to registered computers change settings, but cannot see it there?
    Any help greatly appreciated.

Agree with some of your points and could add a few...but was trying to avoid an OS war!

Totally confusing, I agree. Glad you like it, "groping" it's a unique product feature

As well, I hope you will like the auto-update feature.

JeffVandervoort reacted to DanieleCusumano in Modify event log notifications from mobile client
    Hi Marius,

I'm loving this software day by day. The only thing that I find difficult is that when I need to change something in the configuration I need to operate on the PC client.

I'd love to have a control panel on the mobile to help me modify my configurations. For example to add or modify notifications for events.

    Thanks Daniele

    Hi Randy,

It's a good idea, we will implement this in a future release, thanks!

SQL Server module will be available in 1-2 months.

You're welcome. Just to let you know that this change will not be included in the 2.5 release but in the next one (2.5.1).

JeffVandervoort reacted to RandyKisch in Open a telnet session to a server port
I would like to be able to open up a port and then send a string to that port and compare the data that is returned, bad data or no data returned would put up a flag that the server is having issues. This would tell me that the application is working correctly. If you can do this and add in a way to run a SQL query against a MSSQL server and compare the results, I would buy this product in a heart beat!
    Thank you.

JeffVandervoort reacted to Marius in Old events being reported as new
We added an extra check in PC Monitor for this kind of scenario and it will be available in the next release.
The event watcher should be fired only when new events are written in the event log and not for the old ones. If this case does occur PC Monitor will compare the current system time with the event generated time. If there's a bigger of 5 minutes or more the event will be ignored.

JeffVandervoort got a reaction from DanieleCusumano in Antivirus Notifications
The Windows "Action Center" posts a message if antivirus is not running, or is out of date.  Assuming you have a way to grab this info, a Notification from PCM would be welcome.

The latest 2.5 beta 5 improves the event watch handling - this should fix the issue you are experiencing. Thanks Jeff for all your help.

You could use PC Monitor Rules for that - add a performance counter for the PCMonitorSrv process - % Processor time. As well, you can specify a list of actions when the condition is true.

JeffVandervoort reacted to Marius in Schedule WoL / Shutdown (maybe Restart)
we are actually implementing a timed restart for the next update as part of Windows Updates - Check / Download / Install / Restart (if required). We plan to inform any logged in users that the computer will restart to apply updates and that will imply a timed restart. The same method will be used elsewhere.

Hi, yes - we plan to add timed shut down/restart - Wake on LAN is interesting too - we will consider this, it's a nice addition.

    Special greetings.
Have you considered, and is it possible for the PC Monitor App (ie. iPhone) to issue a WoL, or Shutdown command on a user determined and managed schedule? In another life I supported business offices that would have benefited from such a capability ... thank you.

Dashboard is due for a makeover we want to be able to group computers by groups and many more... as well, we think an iPad Dashboard will look interesting (not very useful but interesting, we might add it into a future PC Monitor app release)

This currently is not fully supported. However you can deploy the .msi through Group Policy and then run a script to import the registry settings.

First export the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MMSOFT Design\PC Monitor key from a fully configured computer, remove ComputerIdentifier and ComputerName then import it on all the computers.

JeffVandervoort got a reaction from Marius in Dashboard suggestions
Having a tray icon AND a taskbar icon is redundant. MUCH prefer a tray icon.
I've added Dashboard to my Startup group to run minimized. Preference would be to have an option to launch on logon AS A TRAY ICON.
Tray icon (get the theme here?<g>) should post a balloon as new notifications arrive.
Tray icon should flash (or something) when a new notification comes in, and keep flashing until I've seen and dismissed it (not necessarily deleted it).
Minor, and if it never changed it would be OK with me. But that stock traffic light icon has been around for at least 15 years!
A desktop Gadget that summarizes system status and scrolls notifications would be cool.

Great product; looking forward to all the new functionality you're adding.
